Washing machine emits a burning smell
Issue
- Washing machine emits a burning smell
Applies to
- Front Load Washer
- Front Load Washer Dryer
Solution
Possible Causes:
- Trapped clothing between the door and the gasket
- Too much detergent or unsuitable detergent (creates too much foam) has been used. Low sudsing detergent is required for this washing machine to prevent oversudsing problems, unsatisfactory washing result and harm to the machine.
1. Unplug the appliance immediately.
2. Turn off the water tap.
3. If there is water in the machine do an emergency drain.
Make sure that the water temperature and the laundry are not hot. Wait until they cool down if necessary.
- Remove the water inlet hose.
- Remove the drain hose from the rear support and unhook it from sink or spigot.
- Put the end of the drain and inlet hose in a container. Let the water flow out of the hoses.
- When no more water flows, install the inlet hose and the drain hose again.
4. If the appliance door remains locked.
Use the emergency release to open the door.
- Open the filter cover.
- Without touching the door. Insert a small flathead screwdriver into the slot on emergency unlock strap (red strap) and pull down twice then pull the door open. Repeat if unsuccessful. Note: Do not pull-down emergency strap too hard.
5. Check the door seal
- Check for damage to the door seal due to an item being caught between the seal and the door.
- Check and remove objects (if there are any) that could be trapped in the fold.
- If there is damage to the door seal the machine cannot be used. Contact a service agent to book a repair.
- If there is no damage to the door seal, run a maintenance wash:
Regularly perform a maintenance wash using a washing machine cleaner
- Empty the Drum
Make sure the washing machine is completely empty - no clothes or laundry items. - Select machine clean or tub clean cycle is available as a programme on your particular product.
Or
- Select a Hot Wash Cycle
Choose the hottest cycle available. - Add a Cleaning Agent to the drum
- Run the Cycle
Start the cycle and let it complete fully. Do not interrupt it. - Clean the Detergent Drawer and Door Seal
After the cycle, wipe down:- The rubber door seal (check for mould or residue)
- The detergent drawer (remove and rinse under running water if possible)
- Repeat Monthly
Doing this once a month helps prevent buildup and keeps your machine fresh and efficient.
