Tumble dryer damages clothes

Solution

Possible causes:

• Foreign objects: Items like coins, keys, or hair clips left in pockets can snag on the drum, creating holes in fabric.
• Damaged drum: If the dryer drum has dents, rust, or other damage, the sharp edges can snag and tear clothes.
• Worn seals: A worn-out door seal can allow clothes to get caught between the drum and the dryer housing, leading to tears.
• Overloading: Can cause them to bunch up and get caught on each other, resulting in damage.
• Improper sorting: Mixing delicate fabrics with heavier items in the dryer can lead to the delicate fabric being stretched or torn.
• High heat settings: Using too high a heat setting can weaken fabric fibres, making them more prone to tearing.

Sorting the laundry

• Close the zips.
• Close the fasteners of duvet covers.
• Do not dry ties or ribbons loose (e.g. apron ribbons). Tie them before you start a program.
• Remove all items from pockets.
• Always set the program suitable for the type of laundry.
• Do not exceed the maximum load for the drying cycle selected.
• Ensure the laundry is not trapped between the appliance door and the rubber seal.

Note: Very often the clothes after washing cycle are kneaded and tangled altogether. Drying kneaded and tangled clothes is inefficient. To assure proper air flow and even drying it is recommended to shake and load one by one the clothes to the tumble dryer.
